Vicarious baking and bunny portraits

Lately I've been baking vicariously through nightly screenings of any given baking show while we eat our paltry dinner on the futon. Tomato soup is not really a meal, but at least we're getting our veggies.

You may not know this, but Bake Off is actually a global franchise of Love Productions, spanning 32-plus countries and several languages. Apparently the first Asian bake off was commissioned last year for Thailand. I bet it's far less butter and sugar over there.

Naturally, we've seen at least one season from all the English-speaking countries: US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and England (the flagship GBBO). Last night we started the Great South African Bake Off, and as far as I can tell, it has the meanest judges. Once we tried watching the Italian version, "Dolci in forno", where they start with a massive field of contestants baking in, well, a field. It's amusing, and I for sure want to learn Italian bread and patisserie deep in my soul. But my paltry efforts to translate every tenth word into English for my husband did not exactly make for a relaxing viewing experience.

We've also been working daily for about six weeks to bond our bunnies, a real thing that is far more emotionally exhausting than it sounds. Basically you put them together in a bathtub and wait for them to try to kill each other, then separate them before they can. They both have scabs and fur clumps from where they've tried to munch on each other, so neither lady is feeling particularly photogenic. We did get them together long enough to take a picture for the Minnesota Companion Rabbit Society fundraiser. For $15, you can commission a portrait of your pet by a local volunteer (read: amateur) artist. The results have been truly adorable, and I'd suggest you check out the others on their Facebook page. Here's our little munchkins, memorialized in paint:
